Stocking Your 30A Rental: Groceries, Private Chefs and Delivery

So, hey, let’s talk about the first grocery run. If you’re feeding 14 people for a week, it’s not a quick stop for milk. It’s three carts, a cooler, and someone holding the list while someone else chases the toddler down the cereal aisle. As a mom of four, I’ll be honest: the first grocery run deserves a real plan.

The good news is that you have real options here, from big supermarkets just off 30A to services that will shop and put everything away before you arrive. Here’s how I’d think about it.

The Big Grocery Stores

Most full-size grocery stores sit on U.S. 98, the highway that runs parallel to 30A a few minutes inland. Plan your first run there, not on 30A itself.

Publix has three stores that serve 30A:

  • Publix at South Walton, 2038 U.S. Highway 98 W, Santa Rosa Beach, toward the west end. A Publix Liquors sits next door.
  • Publix at WaterColor Crossings, 110 WaterColor Way, Santa Rosa Beach, in WaterColor in the middle stretch of 30A.
  • Publix at Watersound Town Center, 11291 U.S. Highway 98 E, Inlet Beach, for the east end near Rosemary and Alys Beach, also with a Publix Liquors next door.

Store listings show 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. (Hours can change, so check before a late run.) Publix also takes catering orders for things like sub and party platters, which is a lifesaver for an arrival-day lunch.

Walmart has a Supercenter at 6712 U.S. Highway 98 W in Santa Rosa Beach and a smaller Neighborhood Market at 6861 E. U.S. Highway 98, both opening at 6 a.m.

Whole Foods Market Destin is at 4402 Legendary Drive at Destin Commons, open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. It has a hot bar, and it’s worth the drive if you’re picking up specialty or organic items on your way in from the airport.

If you shop in bulk, know that the closest Sam’s Clubs are in Fort Walton Beach (740 Beal Pkwy. NW) and Panama City (1707 W. 23rd St.). Neither is a quick trip from 30A.

On 30A Itself: Modica Market

For the “we forgot the coffee filters” run, or for something a little more special, Modica Market at 109 Seaside Central Square is Seaside’s gourmet grocery. It’s open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with homemade Southern dishes and to-go meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus wine, craft beer, cheeses and specialty pantry items. Around the holidays it takes orders for things like turkeys, steaks, sides and whole cakes. If you’re spending a morning in town, our Seaside guide has the rest of the day.

Grocery Delivery and Pre-Arrival Stocking

You have two kinds of help here, and they’re very different.

App delivery. Publix delivery and curbside pickup run through Instacart. Publix notes that delivery and pickup prices are higher than in-store prices, fees and tips may apply, and Publix Liquors orders can’t be combined with grocery delivery. Whole Foods offers delivery and pickup through Amazon for Prime members. These work well once you’re settled in the house.

Local stocking services. A handful of 30A businesses will shop your list, deliver it and put it all away in the fridge and pantry, so you walk into a stocked kitchen. Pricing is usually a service fee on top of the groceries. As one example, Morganize It 30A lists a $100 stocking and delivery fee plus 25% of the grocery total, with a $75 rush fee for orders placed less than three days ahead, and alcohol billed at cost. (Time-sensitive: confirm current pricing.) Another local service, Pristine Grocery Delivery, sends an estimate you pay upfront, then charges its service fee on delivery.

Two tips if you go this route:

  • Order early. Rush fees and holiday-week demand both reward the planners.
  • Sort out door access. The service needs to get inside before you do. Give them your host’s or property manager’s contact and let everyone coordinate the entry code and timing ahead of check-in.

Seafood Markets

Cooking Gulf seafood at the house is one of the best parts of a rental, and the markets here make it easy. Several will steam your shrimp to order, which means dinner is basically done.

  • Buddy’s Seafood Market, 5231 E. County Highway 30A, Santa Rosa Beach. A retail market and takeout steam bar that sells only Certified Wild American Shrimp in several sizes, steamed and seasoned to order if you like. Fish such as scamp, red and black grouper, snapper and yellowfin tuna come and go with the seasons, and they make sides like new potatoes and corn, gumbo, tuna dip and key lime pie.
  • Goatfeathers Seagrove Market, 4042 E. County Highway 30A, open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Goatfeathers at 30Avenue, 12805 U.S. Highway 98 E, Suite O101, Inlet Beach. A market with fresh fish, Gulf shrimp from 10 to 40 count, lump and jumbo lump crab meat and house-made condiments, plus free steaming and a small café.
  • Destin Ice Seafood Market & Deli, 663 Harbor Blvd., Destin, open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Fish, shrimp, crab, scallops and oysters, plus ready-to-cook meals, wine and cheese. It’s handy on the way home from a Destin boat day.

Bakeries and Farmers Markets

Black Bear Bread Co. bakes naturally leavened breads and pastries and has two cafés: Grayton Beach (26 Logan Lane, Unit G, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and Seaside (2311 E. County Highway 30A, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.). You can order ahead for pickup online, and a couple of their loaves on the counter make a week of breakfasts and sandwiches better. (More on their café menu in our restaurants guide.)

Blue Mountain Bakery, 2217 W. County Highway 30A in Blue Mountain Beach (formerly La Loba), opens 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Charlie’s Donuts in Seacrest, at the Peddler’s Pavilion shops (10343 E. County Highway 30A), sells the same donuts as Charlie’s well-known food truck in Alys Beach. Visit South Walton warns they sell out quickly, so go early.

For produce, the Seaside Farmers Market sets up in the Seaside Amphitheater from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays year-round, and on Tuesdays too in June and July. The 30A Farmers Market at Rosemary Beach runs Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., year-round, in Long Green Park.

Private Chefs and Catering

With a big group, one night with a chef can be the best meal of the trip. Nobody drives, the kids eat early and go to bed, and the grown-ups get to linger. Most 30A chefs are independent operators who shop for the meal, cook it in your kitchen and serve it at your table.

What it costs varies a lot, so read how each one prices. As published examples (time-sensitive, as of October 2026):

  • 30A Vacation Chef lists menus from $105 to $145 per serving, geared to groups of 10 or more, with the chef gathering ingredients and cooking in your rental.
  • Chef Jojo advertises service starting at $55 per guest plus $25 for food cost, with tax and gratuity on top.

Those two numbers show why it’s worth asking questions before you book:

  • Is food included in the per-person price, or billed separately?
  • Are tax, gratuity and a server or cleanup helper extra?
  • Will they shop, cook, serve and clean up?
  • Are they licensed and insured?
  • What do they need from the kitchen (oven space, grill, enough plates for 14)?

If you’d rather go with a resort team, WaterColor Home Catering prepares meals in WaterColor’s banquet kitchen and brings them to your home; I covered the details in our things to do guide. Book any chef well ahead for holiday weeks.

Tips for Feeding a Big Group

Planning for 14 is its own sport. A few things that make it easier:

  • Make a list, by meal. Write out every breakfast, lunch and dinner before you shop. Then count heads per meal, not per day. It’s the difference between one big trip and four small ones.
  • Assign dinners. Give each family or couple a night to plan and cook. Everyone gets a turn off.
  • Mix it up. One seafood-market steam night, one chef night, one night out, and the rest at home is a nice rhythm for a week.
  • Order the specialty stuff ahead. Bread for pickup, holiday meals from Modica, platters from Publix catering.
  • Pack the beach cooler right. Walton County doesn’t allow glass on the beach, so pour drinks into plastic before you head down. Our beaches guide has the other county rules.
  • Skip the store on arrival day if you can. Use curbside pickup or a stocking service so the first afternoon goes to the beach, not the checkout line.
